The Little Things That Add A Wow Factor To Any Space

Great interior design is all about the little things that add vibrancy to a room, reflect a touch of your personality and create a sense of style.

Together, they create a wow factor that ensures the room offers individual flair and an insight into who you are and how you live.

So, let’s look at the little things that add a wow factor to any space…

What is the wow factor?

The wow factor is that sense of style and flair. It’s unique, often reflecting your personality and embracing the items you want to showcase in your home.

That means “the little things” can be anything from an artwork to a signature piece of furniture to the way you use colour or how you place decorator pieces.

Signature furniture pieces

Furniture isn’t just functional, it can be an absolutely stunning addition to a room, particularly if it’s a signature piece that really draws the eye.

Whether it’s a gorgeous armchair, a stunning sideboard, truly unique coffee table or even something passed down through the generations and rejuvenated, this piece of furniture tends to be highly unique.

To showcase this piece, you often create the room around it, adding items that complement it, but don’t distract from it and add to the theme it creates.

Artwork

Artwork has the ability to set the tone of a space, create a feel or even tie a room together, and it’s an ideal way of instilling that real wow factor.

And there are two ways to approach the idea of artwork. You find a piece you really love and take your interior design cues from it, or you have a space and seek out the ideal artwork to complement it.

Either way, art adds a sense of completion to a room, taking from a ‘place’ to a warm and inviting ‘space’.

Decorator pieces

Decorator pieces, such as vases, photo frames, sculptures and ornaments, are a highly effective way of adding the wow factor to an otherwise impersonal space.

When seeking out decorator pieces, consider the theme of the room and the feel you’re looking to create, along with the existing colour scheme.

The pieces you use should speak to you but work in to complement or highlight tones and styles used in the space.

Soft furnishings

When it comes to creating a welcoming space with a real wow feel, soft furnishings including cushions, throws and rugs are the perfect addition.

They can add vibrancy, hone a colour scheme, and really master that sense of plush comfort.

When it comes to cushions, don’t be afraid to mix and match patterns of a similar colour scheme, or tie together the colours scheme of the room using cushions of different colours.

A further benefit of soft furnishings is they can dampen down the ambient noise in a room, creating a sense or peace and solace. They can also be swapped out or replaced with the seasons and as styles come and go.

Tableware

This one is often underrated, but if you are wanting to create real impact in a home, turn your attention to your tableware in your entertaining and dining areas.

Even small additions like a vase of flowers, a table runner, placemats or a centrepiece have the potential to transform a table from a blank space to a focal point that adds an extra-welcoming feel and vibrancy.

Then, when it comes to special occasions like a dinner party, family gathering or event, take it to a whole new level with a fully decked out table that, done well, is akin to a layered artwork.
