Christmas Decorating Trends 2022

The lights are going up, the decorations are in store, and we’ve got that excited feeling that hearkens right back to childhood.

That’s right, Christmas is now just over a month away, meaning only one thing – it’s time to start decorating! But what exactly are the Christmas trends for 2022 and how can you easily embrace them to create a fun, fresh vibe this festive season?

The Christmas colours of 2022

This year, the pastel palettes of previous years have made way for a couple of incoming colour trends, all of which are easy to add to your existing decoration collection.

Bright and bold

On the one hand bold and bright is trending – think vivid reds, with pops of light blue, green and some patterned pieces to pull the theme together.

Evident everywhere from baubles to wrapping paper and placemats, it’s a theme where more is more, so don’t be frightened to dive into a colour theme and really embrace it.

Neutral and sustainable

On the other end of the spectrum, neutral and natural tones remain in vogue, and here we’re seeing a definite nod to sustainability, which has become increasingly popular in Christmas decorating.

Suited to almost any home, neutral tones offer a classic and elegant theme, revolving around beige or white decorations, hints of brown, soft natural greens, the occasional touch of rustic colour and a spot of gold or silver.

This trend is all about natural fibres and textures, including wood, hessian, cotton, and linen, and can extend all the way from your tree right through to wreaths, lighting and tablescaping.

A touch of Australiana

Australiana has been a huge Christmas theme for the past couple of years, but it’s matured significantly from years gone by.

These days, Australiana offers an elegant and timeless way to bring our flora and fauna into the Christmas equation. Think eucalyptus green, right pops of cherry red, gum nuts and a hint of light gold.

Again, this is a theme that you can carry right through your home – from tree decorations to wreaths, napery, tableware and floral arrangements.

Coastal Christmas

As our home is Noosa, we would be remiss to overlook the beach theme that remains perennially popular throughout Australia.

This year, the coastal Christmas look has taken a classic turn, incorporating a subtle nod to the colours, tones and feel of beach living.

In terms of decorations, we’re talking small white ceramic sea life, driftwood wooden baubles, and glass ornaments with a hint of sandy gold.

Macramé’s also made a bit of a comeback as part of this theme, along with natural materials like light wood, cotton, and white clay.

A warm inviting feel

However you choose to embrace Christmas, it’s all about embracing the theme and taking it to the next level by tying in your chosen style throughout the home.

That means Christmas decorating extends well beyond the tree to your entryway, lighting, living areas, and dining table.
